As we remember the past, and hope that it does not repeat itself, the tragic events of the 9/11 attacks left America with a great deal of suffering and pain. Most Americans remember where they were the moment they heard of the terrorist attacks that claimed so many innocent lives. With much awaited anticipation, today marks the fist officially-designated September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance in the United States. President Obama in a proclamation regarding Patriot Day and the National Day of Remembrance and Service said: “I call upon all Americans to join and honor the lives we lost, the heroes who responded in our hour of need, and the brave men and women in uniform who continue to protect our country at home and abroad. Working together, we can usher in a new era in which volunteering and more service is a way of life for all Americans. Deriving strength from tragedy, we can write the next great chapter in our Nation’s history and ensure that future generations continue to enjoy the promise of America.” The Corporation for National and Community Service state offices teamed up with Governor-appointed state service commissions and have put together a short version of a list of community projects that are currently underway throughout the 50 states, Washington
DC and Guam. To view the condensed list of projects, please click here. Also, as you take the time to consider volunteering for our country, please consider to volunteer yourself as a mentor because your knowledge, experience, and time could be benefiting a victim, survivor or family member from 9/11.
