The U.S. Department of State is creating a mentoring program that is going to unify education, technology and global business. The program, TechWomen, “will pair women in Silicon Valley with 38 of their counterparts in the Middle East and North Africa for a five-week professional mentorship program at leading technology companies beginning in the summer of 2011.” By “using innovative technologies, cutting-edge content, and social networking tools, TechWomen will foster and develop the next generation of women leaders in the technology field by providing women and girls with the access and opportunity needed to pursue tech-based careers.” Currently, they are seeking technical mentors to assist the mentorees with their professional work, as well as cultural mentors to assist the participants with personal and cultural support.
